“Shajaret Al Zaitoun” translates to “The Olive Tree”. For Palestinians, olive trees symbolise resilience, peace and a deep connection to their land. Trees also symbolise life, family lineage, memory and history; carrying stories across generations. In this work, I explore both my Palestinian partner’s family history and my own. Two different histories become intertwined through partnership, love, and shared experience, stitched together through the language of traditional Palestinian embroidery. Through this work, I reflect on how heritage, memory and relationships intertwine across generations and cultures.
