Jennifer McDonald - Ecdysis

My work explores the intersections of portraiture and wildlife photography, taking inspiration from the aesthetics of fashion photography. I primarily shoot outdoors, utilising both natural and external flash lighting. My previous work includes a portraiture-based project to visually represent the strengths and talents of autistic university students, and a fine art-based photography project exploring the reflection of the white spectrum of light. I am consistently inspired by the visual and technological possibilities of photography, evident in my multidisciplinary approach.

Ecdysis is the scientific term for the process of molting, primarily displayed in insects, crustaceans and birds. This project represents the wish to shed away the impact of patriarchal power structures, alike to the process of molting.
