Emily Widdows - Did You Not Listen to a Word I Said Emily Widdows is a photographer, editor, and retoucher currently based in Bristol. Alongside her studies, she works in live music photography, where her commercial experience within the entertainment industry has developed a strong passion for colour, something that has now become integral in her personal work, including this project.
“Did You Not Listen to a Word I Said” is a personal exploration of Emily’s experience living with Auditory Processing Disorder (APD). Through research and self-reflection, the project examines the subtle and significant ways the condition has shaped social interactions and everyday communication throughout her life. By comparing her experiences with how others navigate conversation, the work aims to give the audience an insight into the isolation and discomfort that can come with processing auditory information. Through texture and harsh editing techniques, she transforms her images into metaphorical works that visually express the discomfort and disorientation that she often experiences.
